Many, many Volunteers will be needed for the 2009 WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race. Volunteers will be needed for all areas of the race including: the Adventurer's Gala, the Canine Weight Pull event, Dog Crews at the Start, Road Crossings, and much more! |
Banner Squad: One team of two (2) persons are needed to insure that our sponsor's banners are in the right place at the right time! You must have reliable transportation to quickly set up and take down banners in several locations around Ely and in Tower. Volunteers for the Banner Squad will need to commit to a FULL day on both Saturday and Sunday, and will be afforded the opportunity to see every aspect of the race, beginning with the Vet Checks, Canine Weight Pull, Mushers Lasagna Feed, Mandatory Drivers Meeting, the Start of the race and the Awards Ceremony's at Tower and Ely on Sunday afternoon. |
The Adventurer's Gala: If you are planning on purchasing tickets and attending the Adventurer's Gala event on Friday evening February 27th, we need your help. Shortly after 3:00pm on Friday, the banquet hall will need to be prepared and each table will need to be tastefully decorated. Volunteer's will also be needed to greet and verify registrations for over 120 guests. |
The Canine Weight Pull: Very early Saturday morning, February 28th, several volunteers will be needed to help with weight pull registrations and weigh ins at the Pioneer Mine Dry Building in Ely. Volunteers are also needed to set up the pulling chute by erecting the fencing sides, laying out the carpet, placing and removing weights from the cart and putting it all away at the end of the afternoon. |
The Ely Start (setup & parking): Several volunteers are needed well before sun up Sunday morning March 1st to prepare the starting chute, lay out snow fence and signs, and direct spectators, mushers, race officials and veterinarians to parking areas. At the end of the day, it all needs to come down and be put away. |
Ely - Dog Crews: This is a huge task and undoubtedly one of the most important undertakings at the race Start. Dog Crew volunteers get up close and personal with the mushers and their canine superstars. Over 60 physically fit volunteers are needed to assist the teams in getting from the staging area, up the hill, and into the Starting Chute. Dog Crews are divided into 12 teams of 5 persons. If your not afraid to get a little dirty and don't mind smelling like dog at the end of the day, Dog Crews are for you! Contact your friends, form a team of five and help us with this monumental task! |
The Tower Finish (setup & parking): Several volunteers are needed well before sun up Sunday morning March 1st to prepare the starting chute, lay out snow fence and signs, and direct spectators, mushers, race officials and veterinarians to parking areas. At the end of the day, it all needs to come down and be put away. |
Road Crossings (the Guardian Angels of the Race): This is an extremely important volunteer task. Road Crossing volunteers are charged with making sure all teams can cross the highways safely. As the teams approach, your mission is to flag down and stop vehicle traffic in accordance with Minnesota Department's of Transportation and Public Safety guidelines. There are three major road crossings that will require the presence of three or four volunteers at each location throughout the duration of the race on Sunday - where the Taconite Trail intersects with Highway's 1 and 21 in Ely, and County Rd. 128 in Bear Head Lake State Park. Road Crossing volunteers have "the best spectator seat in the house", as all 70 teams must come through you (35 teams twice). Please Register and be a part of making this a great success!
